If you have decided to be a new homeowner in the U.S, we understand your struggle completely. It is such a confusing task that even someone who has been a homeowner already can get all plans messed up. One must consider many things before deciding what city to move to. As exhausting as this search is, it is always better to search for the top ten cities. This way, you can check and shortlist cities according to your liking.

The first thing any new homeowner should consider when moving to a new town is its affordability. Expenses such as utilities and other necessities can easily be a burden if they do not fit your budget.

Instead of searching for all this information and getting overwhelmed by it, reading relevant articles can significantly help. Per a survey conducted among fifty metropolitan areas, it was revealed that Pittsburgh brags the top position to live in for new homeowners.

Factors to Consider Before Moving to a New City

Moreover, there are other factors one should consider other than affordability, and one of those factors is how good the job market is. It would be best if you also considered how safe the town is. If the crime rates are higher than usual, it might not be a suitable choice for you to buy a home in that area.

Secondly, if the job market is not as open as expected, it can cause problems for local homeowners in earning their daily wages. The survey showing Pittsburgh tops the list indicates it is also the most affordable city.

In addition, it holds the second position regarding market tightness and, consequently, third place regarding safety. People who decide to be new homeowners have always preferred affordability over any other factor.

Cities Other Than Pittsburgh That You Can Consider

Again, if your town is affordable, you can opt for things that are what you call secondary needs. Other than Pittsburgh, the top nine cities have earned a rightful place in the list of top cities, according to the survey.

  1. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  2. Minneapolis St. Paul/Bloomington, Minnesota
  3. Cincinnati, Ohio
  4. Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri
  5. Buffalo Cheektowaga, Niagara Falls, New York
  6. Richmond, Virginia
  7. Cleveland, Ohio
  8. St. Louis, Missouri
  9. Hartford/West Hartford/East Hartford, Connecticut
  10. Milwaukee/Waukesha/West Allis, Wisconsin

Why is Pittsburgh the Best City To Buy a House?

Besides being the top on this list, Pittsburgh has an average price for new homes of roughly $1,069,000. Considering the price range for houses in Silicon Valley and other towns, this price range is approximately a million dollars less.

Also, it is not as if Pittsburgh is far-off, either. The town has a few prominent universities and cultural places like museums too. With a resident count of nearly 2.3 million people, this metropolitan area is the 26th largest in the nation.

Earnings are also pretty great for the residents, with the average income for families headed by twenty-five to forty-four olds being nearly $76,000. That is enough to meet the expense of a home.

Although Cleveland and Detroit have almost the same prices for new homes, most city residents make less than $70,000 a year in their critical years of buying a home.

Cities Rated the Least Favorable

Furthermore, due to COVID-19, the real estate market has exclusively increased its prices up to a great height. Due to this inflation, average homes are sold for an immensely increased price. Only a few metropolitan areas offer an enticing price range, job availability, and tight security. Californian cities lie at the very bottom of the list. And no city from this region has reached even above the thirty-ninth position.

Consequently, Los Angeles and other areas in this metropolitan area have managed to be on the far end of the list compared to Pittsburgh. Contrary to that, Pittsburgh has a very high rate of unemployment.

The Second Best City

Minneapolis, Minnesota holds the second position, as it ranked safe in terms of culture and security. Due to its poor employment rates, it is placed in the sixth position regarding market tightness.

Final Words

As stated above, to buy a house and move into it in a new city, you should consider multiple factors to make a final decision. Nonetheless, these factors should not depend on anyone else’s opinion. Something favorable to your friend might not be an appropriate condition for you to live in. Make sure that you verify all the checkpoints from your list so that you can shortlist your favorite cities.
